What is a Student Council?

  • It can provide an opportunity for pupils to voice their opinions and offer suggestions in relation to different aspects of school life.
  • It can encourage and promote initiatives from the pupils.
  • It can act as a channel of communication for the pupils.
  • It can encourage pupils (and thereby parents) to organise events central to the life of the school.
  • It can provide an opportunity to raise funds for the school or charities.

The roles and responsibilities of our Student Council are

  • To act as a student liaison person to voice pupils concerns, ideas or opinions and offer suggestions in relation to different aspects of school life.
  • Occasionally meeting and greeting special visitors to the school.
  • Welcoming Junior Infant pupils to the school.
  • Helping to organise charity events.
  • Running, in school competitions, such as art/writing competitions.
  • Involved in the running of special events such as Grandparents day/bake sales.
  • Promoting Gaeilge throughout the school.
  • Delivering news that is important to pupils through newsletter.
  • Promoting health, safety and wellbeing of pupils.
  • Promoting the Catholic ethos with student council members leading prayers at assembly

The Student Council

The student council was formed 4th November 2020 and its current members are
