Physical Education in Our School

Teaching P.E.

In our school we make sure that the children all take part in P.E.

Physical Education is a very important part of life in our school and despite the lack of indoor facilities, we always make sure to deliver the PE Curriculum to the best of our ability.

We are blessed with great space including a football pitch!

Our classrooms are also used for PE lessons from time to time when the weather means we cannot get outside.

We are currently in the completion stages of a new General Purpose room in our school which will mean that we can enjoy lots more indoor P.E. lessons in spacious new facilities.

Curriculum and Planning

We follow a whole school approach to teaching PE.

Teachers work as a team and we strive to make P.E. a subject the children all engage in and enjoy.

We have an up to date P.E. Policy that is reviewed periodically to ensure that we provide a comprehensive Physical Education curriculum for our students.

Move Well, Move Often

As part of Physical Education in St. Patrick’s, we use the Move Well, Move Often resource from the PDST. This resource focuses on the Fundamental Movement Skills that help develop children’s physical literacy.

These skills are taught from Junior Infants to 6th Class and incorporated in all areas of the P.E. Curriculum.

Children frequently are assigned FMS homework where they practise and assess skills such as running, throwing, catching etc.
