Physical Activity in Our School

Active Andy in Junior and Senior Infants

As part of Active Schools we all make sure we are as active as we can be.

In Junior and Senior Infants we had a little friend to help us.

Active Andy came to our class and he brought a little letter asking us to show him how active we could be together. We had great fun and we wrote a little book about our adventures.

Active Andy encourages boys and girls to be active at home to and goes to visit the boys’ and girls’ homes to practise Active Homework.

Fitness and Technology

Go Noodle, Just Dance and ICT

One way we stay active in a fun way is to use dancing.

We have excellent digital resources in our school and each classroom is equipped with state of the art interactive whiteboards with integrated sound systems. We can cast directly to our boards from our iPads – perfect for streaming Spotify dance playlists!

We enjoy using online resources GoNoodle and dance breaks using our Clevertouch boards.

It is a great way to link technology and physical activity in a fun way.

Fitness Events

Festive Fitness

We hold a Festive Fitness event each Christmas.

Our most recent event was a festive fitness circuit designed by our senior Active School Committee members. We listened to festive music while having lots of fun.

St. Patrick's Day Céilí Mór

Our school is filled with talented musicians and we love to integrate this into our activity in the school.

In the lead up to St.Patrick’s Day we had lots of fun learning some Céilí dancing in our classes. For four weeks we had lessons and learned the dance ”The Seige of Ennis/Ionsaí Na HInse”.

It was great fun and our musicians were able to provide the music having worked on the suitable tunes. It was a great way to include our music with physical activity and embrace all the wonderful talent there is in Ballinamuck.

Because of Covid19 and the school closure, we were unable to hold the Céilí on our planned day but we look forward to hitting the dancefloor with our newly acquired skills in the not-to- distance future le cúnamh Dé.

Training with an Irish International Rugby star

In our school we love to learn about a variety of physical activities and sports.

We were very lucky to have International Rugby player Ellen Murphy visit us in our school. Ellen plays scrum half for Ireland and has 7 caps to date. She met with the classes and told us a little about what playing for your country is like.

Each class had the opportunity to train with Ellen on our pitch.

It was an inspiring and fun visit.
